Traumatic diaphragmatic hernia

Presentation

Dog was hit by a car and brought in to emergency. Lacerations and hypovolemic shock.

Gender: Female
Category: Domestic dog
Organism: Chihuahua superbreed

Thorax

x-ray

There is silhouetting with the caudal cardiac silhouette and poor visibility of the right side of the diaphgragm. There is increased soft tissue and gas opacity in the pleural space, as well as pleural effusion. There is a mediastinal shift to the left. Small intestinal loops can be traced along the right thoracic wall from the abdomen into the thoracic cavity. The right 6th rib is fractured.
