Pulmonary Metastasis

Presentation

Enlarged submandibular lymph nodes for two weeks. Depressed, lethargic, inappentant. Pain on opening mouth and drooling.

Patient Data

Age: 8 years
Gender: Spayed female
Category: Domestic dog
Organism: English Springer spaniel

Thorax

x-ray

There is a a round, soft tissue opacity nodule in the cranioventral lungs, seen equally well on both lateral projections, and not seen on the ventrodorsal projection. A second nodule is visible partly superimposed on the T7 vertebral body on the right lateral projection. 

Case Discussion

The mandibular lymph nodes were biopsied and diagnosed with metastatic adenocarcinoma. The pulmonary nodule was suspected to be additional metastatic disease but was not sampled. The primary tumor was suspected to be nasal but diagnostics were not pursued.
