Case Discussion

The complete lack of gastrointestinal contents is consistent with gastroenteritis. The combination of anorexia and decreased intestinal transit time results in a lack of contents. Importantly, there is no sign of gastrointestinal obstruction which is a differential for this presentation. The mild splenomegaly is likely incidental.

This animal had parvovirus enteritis. While this set of radiographs appears very normal, this disease can mimic obstruction with enlarged bowel loops in some cases.
