Case Discussion

Osteochondrosis, a failure of enchondral ossification, leads to osteochondritis dissecans when there is a cleft in the cartilage that connects the subchondral bone to the joint space. The cause of the sclerosis is not known, but may be reactive or for stabilization of the area. OCD occurs in areas of specific joints with high weight bearing loads, of which the caudal humeral head is an example. The disease is often bilateral, though no lesions were detected in the opposite limb in this case.
