The cardiovascular structures are normal in size and shape. No abnormalities are seen within the pulmonary parenchyma. The mediastinum contains fat, and the pleural space is normal. No abnormalities are seen in the musculoskeletal system. The liver is mildly enlarged. Metallic staples are present in the ventral body wall.

Case Discussion

Normal thorax. Mild hepatomegaly.

In this deep chested dog there is apparent elevation of the heart from the sternum on the left lateral projection. This is an effect of the lateral recumbent position. The fat in the pericardium and mediastinum is visible between the heart and the sternum.
