Presentation

Presents with a 4-day history of being reluctant to jump or run. Acutely parapalegic.

Patient Data

Age: 5 years
Gender: Spayed female
Category: Domestic dog
Organism: Dachshund, Miniature breed

Thoracic radiographs

x-ray

The cardiovascular structures are normal in size and shape. No abnormalities are seen within the pulmonary parenchyma. The mediastinum and pleural space are normal. No abnormalities are seen in the musculoskeletal system.

Case Discussion

Normal thorax.

These radiographs are not optimally positioned. 

  • The laterality markers are absent
  • The thoracic limbs are not pulled cranially on the right lateral projection
  • The lateral projections are rotated; the rib heads are not superimposed
  • The dorsoventral projection is rotated; the spinous processes are not centered on the vertebral bodies
