Patient Data

Age: 3 months
Gender: Female
Category: Domestic dog
Organism: Mixed breed dog

Thoracic radiographs

x-ray

There is a bilateral interstitial to alveolar pulmonary pattern in the caudodorsal lungs. The cardiovascular structures are normal. The stomach is gas filled which may be secondary to dyspnea.

Case Discussion

This pulmonary pattern combined with the history of near drowning is consistent with non-cardiogenic pulmonary edema.

The left lateral projection is expiratory, compared to the inspiratory phase of the right lateral projection. Expiration increases the visibility of the pulmonary opacity.

There are open physes in the musculoskeletal structures consistent with the dog's age.
