Presentation

Gammopathy found on screening bloodwork.

Patient Data

Age: 11 years
Gender: Castrated male
Category: Domestic dog
Organism: Miniature schnauzer

Vertebral column

x-ray

 

Multiple regions of geographic and punctate lysis on the caudal thoracic and lumbar spinous processes and vertebral bodies. These lucencies are coalescing with variably distinct sclerotic margins. On the ventrodorsal projection, there are lesions visible in the ischium and left ribs. The coccygeal vertebrae from Cy2 caudally do not appear to be affected. There are additional sites of lysis Incidental spondylosis deformans with intervertebral disc space collapse L4-5.

Multiple myeloma.

Case Discussion

Polyostotic aggressive bone lesions with hyperglobulinemia are indicative of multiple myeloma. Without bloodwork, metastatic disease could be considered as a differential diagnosis.
