Presentation

Presents with an oral mass initially suspected to be a tooth root abscess.

Patient Data

Age: 12 years
Gender: Spayed female
Category: Domestic dog
Organism: Australian cattle dog

Thorax and pelvic limbs

x-ray

Thorax: There are multiple, mineral opacity nodules throughout the pulmonary parenchyma. These are variable in size and shape with irregular margins.

Pelvic limbs: On the left fibula, there are two broad based mineral opacity nodules on the medial surface.

Metastatic osteosarcoma to the thorax and skeleton from the primary oral osteosarcoma.

Metastatic osteosarcoma is rarely mineral opacity and more likely to be soft tissue opacity. 90% of osteosarcoma metastases occur in the lung, and 8-10% in the bone.1, 2
