Presentation

Presents with with fever of unknown origin, lethargy, and decreased appetite.

Patient Data

Age: 4 years
Gender: Spayed female
Category: Domestic dog
Organism: Labrador retriever

Thorax

x-ray

There is increased soft tissue opacity in the pleural space with retraction of the lung lobes and partial silhouetting with the cardiac silhouette. There is a patchy bronchointerstitial pattern in the lungs. The cardiovascular structures appear normal.

Abdomen

x-ray

The abdomen is distended and there is poor peritoneal detail. The liver and spleen are enlarged with rounded borders. The colon is moderately dilated with gas. The small intestine appears normal. The urinary tract is not well visualized.

Hepatosplenomegaly and bicavitary effusion may indicate multicentric neoplasia (lymphoma) or inflammatory disorder.

Case Discussion

Hepatosplenic large granular cell lymphoma (NK type) affecting the liver, spleen, and abdominal lymph nodes. The lungs were affected by pulmonary edema.
