Thorax

x-ray

The cardiac silhouette is markedly enlarged and rounded. The pulmonary vasculature is enlarged and there is a bronchointerstitial pattern in the caudal lung lobes.

This is consistent with cardiac failure and pulmonary edema.

Case Discussion

An echocardiogram showed cardiac dilation secondary to increased cardiac volume with high volume heart failure. Possible early DCM. Myelofibrosis was found as the reason for the severe anemia and pancytopenia after cytologic examination of a bone marrow biopsy.

High blood volume will cause cardiomegaly on radiographs. This may be due to fluid therapy, or anemia.
