One week history of increased respiratory effort and respiratory rate.

Patient Data

Age: 10 years
Gender: Castrated male
Category: Domestic cat
Organism: Domestic shorthaired cat

Thorax

x-ray

The cardiac silhouette is mildly enlarged and the pulmonary vasculature is normal. There is a diffuse, marked bronchointerstitial pattern throughout the lungs. There are doughnuts visible in the periphery representing thickened bronchial walls.

Case Discussion

Bronchitis with mixed inflammation were found on bronchoscopy. This is consistent with feline lower airway disease, and the cat responded better to steroid therapy than antibiotics. Asthma was the suspected underlying cause. Mild hypertrophic cardiomyopathy was diagnosed on echocardiography.
