Thorax

x-ray

There is a heterogeneous soft tissue opacity located within the mid thoracic esophagus at the level of the heart base which measures approximately 4 cm x 1.5 cm. There is a small pocket of gas present in the esophagus immediately orad to the material. At the level of the foreign material, there is significant ventral deviation of the trachea and tracheal carina with apparent narrowing of the intraluminal diameter.

Impression: Esophageal foreign body.

Case Discussion

The location of the foreign material with gas outlining it indicates a luminal esophageal foreign body. It is causing a mass effect, displacing the tracheal ventrally and causing compression. Endoscopy showed a dog biscuit wedged in distal esophagus, which was removed with a snare.
