Presentation

Presents with progressively worsening carpal and tarsal joint laxity.

Patient Data

Age: 6 years
Gender: Female
Category: Domestic dog
Organism: Dachshund, Miniature breed

Carpus

x-ray

There is decreased mineral opacity in the distal carpal bones and large lucent areas are visible within them. The cortical margins of the carpal bones are irregular, and there is periosteal reaction dorsally. The proximal and distal intercarpal joints are collapsed. There is a moderate soft tissue swelling at the level of the carpal joint. There is cranial curvature of the radius.

Case Discussion

Erosive polyarthritis was confirmed by the clinical presentation, radiographic findings, and joint cytology showing moderate mononuclear inflammation.
