Cystogram

x-ray

The survey single lateral projection of the abdomen is unremarkable. A double contrast cystogram urethrogram was performed. The urethra is unremarkable. No calculi are noted. The bladder wall is diffusely irregular with areas of contrast uptake. The bladder wall changes are worse cranioventrally and on the right side. No cystic calculi are noted.

Bladder wall changes as described consistent with a cystitis. No evidence of cystic or urethral calculi.

Case Discussion

The double contrast cystogram is an option for evaluating the bladder mucosa as well as calculi in the lumen of the bladder. Both non-ionic contrast medium and air are injected to provide contrast. The addition of a urethrogram is made to include the urethra for evaluation of any obstruction.

Ultrasound is another option to evaluate the bladder lumen, however has limited access to the urethra.
