Presentation
Presents with vomiting, abdominal pain, anorexia. Referring veterinarian diagnosed with urinary obstruction and placed catheter. Cystourethrogram to identify any calculi.
Patient Data
There are multiple irregular filling defects within the center of the urinary bladder. In addition, the urinary bladder wall is mildly thickened. There is gas distention of the distal aspect of the ureters. There is slight irregularity of the dorsal aspect of the urethral wall. The urethra is filled with contrast uniformly.
Blood clots, bubbles, no evidence of obstruction.
Case Discussion
The double contrast cystogram allows for evaluation of the mucosal surface (air) and identifies any free objects in the bladder (center of the contrast pool). Lesions of the wall can be outlined by air and/or contrast, and free lesions will settle to the ventral and central portion of the bladder. Bubbles tend to cluster around the edges of the contrast pool due to surface tension. In this case, the filling defects were irregularly shaped suggesting blood clots instead of stones, which are angular.
