Thorax

x-ray

On image of the thorax, the cardiac silhouette is mildly enlarged and irregular in shape on the caudal border. The right caudal pulmonary vein is mildly tortuous. There are interstitial to alveolar infiltrates throughout the lung with focal concentration in the right caudal lung lobe and the left caudal lung lobe. The thorax is mildly hyperinflated. The kidneys are rounded and slightly small.

Case Discussion

These findings are consistent with cardiomyopathy with heart failure and pulmonary edema.

Necropsy revealed thickened ventricles consistent with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. There was an aortic thromboembolism partially occluding the aortic trifurcation and iliac arteries. The kidneys had evidence of fibrosis suggesting previous pyelonephritis.
