Presentation

Patient Data

Age: 6 years
Gender: Spayed female
Category: Domestic dog
Organism: Catahoula Leopard

Abdomen

x-ray

There is a rounded, ill-defined soft tissue mass present in the craniodorsal abdomen, caudal to the stomach. A mass effect is present causing compression of the stomach and caudal displacement of the right kidney. The spleen is mildly enlarged. No abnormalities of the gastrointestinal tract are observed and the serosal detail is normal.

Case Discussion

Abdominal carcinoma (likely neuroendocrine) in the area of the pancreas with multiple liver metastasis. An abdominal ultrasound was performed confirming the mass and location, as well as hepatic metastases; however, the organ of origin was not determined. Cytologic samples were obtained for diagnostic purposes. CT scanning would be the next step to evaluate the organ of origin.
