Treatment and prognosis is one of the standard sections in a standard Vetlucent article. It outlines how the condition is typically managed and what outcomes can be expected, with a focus on information relevant to veterinary imaging.
Placement in Article
This section typically follows either the Radiographic features section or the optional Radiology report section. It precedes the History and etymology section when present.
Content and Structure
This section should summarize the main treatment approaches for the condition, including both medical and surgical options. While veterinary radiologists are not always directly involved in treatment decisions, awareness of standard therapies helps interpret imaging findings and recognize expected post-treatment changes.
If relevant, include:
typical treatment pathways used in small animal, equine, or exotic practice
expected imaging findings after treatment (e.g. post-operative changes, expected evolution of lesions)
imaging features that may impact or reflect prognosis (e.g. extent of spread, severity of complications)
recommendations for follow-up imaging when available in the literature or established by consensus guidelines
Complications
A complications subheading may be used to describe longer-term sequelae of the disease or its treatment—especially those visible on imaging. For example, pleural effusion secondary to chronic pulmonary disease or incisional herniation after abdominal surgery.
Complications that lead to the initial clinical presentation (e.g. post surgery in aspiration pneumonia) should instead be included in the Clinical presentation section.
