Radiology report (article structure)

Last revised by Mike French on 15 May 2025

Radiology report is an optional but often useful section in Vetlucent articles. It provides practical guidance on how to describe the condition in imaging reports and how to handle common incidental findings or interpretive challenges.

This section is not intended to serve as a standardized report or full template, but rather to offer reporting tips that reflect current veterinary radiology practice.

Placement in Article

The “Radiology Report” section follows the Radiographic features section and precedes the Treatment and Prognosis section.

Content and Structure

There is no required format for this section, but most articles begin with a short introductory sentence and then outline specific reporting considerations using a bulleted or nested list format.

This section may include:

  • How to concisely summarize key findings

  • Language to use (or avoid) when describing ambiguous or incidental findings

  • Recommended phrases for describing severity or urgency

  • Guidelines for when to suggest additional imaging or follow-up

  • Notes on typical pitfalls or differential considerations in interpretation

Important: If the section suggests that no follow-up or mention is needed for a finding, that recommendation must be supported by a clear, credible reference. This ensures consistency with best practices and protects against underreporting of potentially significant conditions.
