Images (multiple choice questions)

Last revised by Allison L Zwingenberger on 26 Apr 2025

Images are an optional part of multiple choice questions (MCQ) but necessary to the image interpretation type questions.

Adding an existing image that is part of a case to a MCQ is easy and there are two ways you can do this.

  1. pin it from an existing case

  2. download it then add it to question

If you don't need to modify the image, use the pin feature. This will take care of all attributions. If you want to add annotations, crop, or make other edits, download the image, make your edits, and then upload it to the question. The new image will be stored independently from the case.

Attribution should be included for every image. Once you have uploaded/added the image, you will be shown how the attribution will appear and prompted to add the vID or other attribution as needed.

Often a bespoke image works best for a question, rather than simply adding one from an existing case. It is essential, however, that images are formatted in a consistent style. See external links below for downloadable templates.

When you have created your image, export it as a JPG and upload it to the multiple-choice question.

If you want to use the image for multiple similar questions, then you can create the first question, save it, and then duplicate it using the "duplicate question" option in the top-right cog menu.
